I'm fitting new front pads to my Focus and a friend told me to rub off the black paint to expose the metal underneath the hooks of the backing plates in order to ensure  smooth movement where the hooks rest on the brake caliper grooves. I know the general rule of thumb is to use Loctite on things that won't be coming apart often or ever and anti-seize on things you want/need to remove again (like brake caliper bolts). After putting the pin in and working it back and borth, wipe off any excess grease, so it cannot migrate to the brake pads. Ok, the back brakes are stuffed, need new rotors, and pads but one thing that is bugging me is this creaking sound that I can hear when you push the brake pedel and the calipers on the rear move. Its a old creaking noise, how do I stop this?! They never uesd to do it, but now its all the time... You need to make sure you put some anti-seize on the caliper pins/bolts. This would be where they go into the caliper. This will allow the caliper to "float" and reduce premature brake pad wear. The caliper piston can also have a problem retracting as that is just normal wear and tear. This will also cause the pads to prematurely wear.

I cleaned them with Marine Clean and steel wool, wire brushed the threads clean then coated with new anti seize and reinstalled.
